What happened to Saul? Saul went from being a
man who hid from attention to a man who demanded attention. He
went from willingly standing in the back of the crowd to forcing
his way to the front of the crowd. He went from being a servant
king to a king with servants. What happened? Saul proved himself
to be a great leader but a sense of insecurity crept into his
life. His trust in God was replaced by his distrust of those around
him. Popularity became more important than obedience. His heart
strayed from God. Eventually God rejected Saul as king. What did
God desire in a king, and what does God desire in us? A heart
that's true to His will.
"After removing Saul, he made David their king.
He testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse
a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to
do.'" Acts 13:22
